PostSubject: Flying aircraft carriers   Fri 15 Jun 2012, 23:02

I have seen last week on the French Arte 7+ a fifty minutes documentary about the USS Macon. As I have so little time I always look at such documentaries moving the cursor to see only the essential without the ballast. So fifty minutes takes only some ten minutes, but in that way I can loose by my speed something essential too Embarassed ...

Did some quick research and found this:

"[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Macon_(ZRS-5)]"

I don't know what to do with the end ")". Not possible to achieve the whole URL in blue (OOPS in yellow on the sent message...)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airborne_aircraft_carrier

http://www.airships.net/us-navy-rigid-airships/uss-akron-macon

If someone wants to comment or to more elaborate the subject?

Kind regards,

Paul.

Paul :

Just took a look at the section of http://www.airships.net/us-navy-rigid-airships/uss-akron-macon relating to USSs Akron and Macon and their "parasitic" aircraft. Plenty more stuff out there, but the whole concept strikes me as dubious.

Would you count the "Mercury / Maia" as a flying aircraft carrier too?

The Zveno Project of the Soviet Union in the 1930s. This combination of aircraft actually carried out missions at the start of the Russo-German phase of WW2 against targets in Romania;
