The old Felix the Cat cartoons from the 1920s/30s were really good - and just a touch (?) surreal.

And Top Cat - only *30* episodes were made - can't believe that.

I loved TC and his gang; I used to race home from school when he was on - was it Tuesday teatimes?

Will try to get a YouTube of the Top Cat theme. There must be one.

PS Tried to get a picture of the whole gang in the alley, but couldn't. I think they are all copyright protected.

I seem to remember that TC had a voice very like Phil Silvers although it may not have been him, does anyone know?

Yes - TC was based entirely on Bilko, they even had a version of Dobermann called Benny in it.

More details here, Gran:

http://www.toonopedia.com/topcat.htm

(Please note Benny's correct name is Benny the Ball).

I was surprised to read this in the article: "Top Cat never did become one of Hanna-Barbera's superstars, and is today the least well-remembered of their 1960s prime-time animated sitcoms."

Surely not? Top Cat was a great favourite with just about everyone I knew/know.

But these two must be the best - if nastiest - cartoon cats ever? (1955)

Just checked out who wrote the song - it was Peggy Lee. She sang it, too - did the voices for both cats. She does a great purrrrr (and yiss)!

Thanks Temp. I loved the teeth joke by the way and I can still remember Peggy Lee singing that song.

It is ID. There is another one where the Cravendale cats have a secret bunker and are brainwashing milkmen. Not yet on youtube that I can see.

Does anyone remember Cat, the cat from "Breakfast at Tiffany's"? Holly Golightly named him Cat so she wouldn't get too attached to him:

Holly Golightly: He's all right! Aren't you, cat? Poor cat! Poor slob! Poor slob without a name! The way I see it I haven't got the right to give him one. We don't belong to each other. We just took up one day by the river. I don't want to own anything until I find a place where me and things go together. I'm not sure where that is but I know what it is like. It's like Tiffany's.

Holly Golightly: I'm like cat here, a no-name slob. We belong to nobody, and nobody belongs to us. We don't even belong to each other.

Back in a sec with a picture of Cat.
