Fascinating article comparing modern portrature and 3D computerised images with that of the past, and what they reveal, not only about us today but also about our ancestors and how they might have lived. Unlike us and contrary to modern belief, people of the past were not painted in a mythical way in order to present an improved version of themselves, rather as they were in life with blackheads and all.

Death masks have been used by many cultures for millenia, and are an excellent snapshot of how any historical figures appeared.

Great collection of death masks found here, including MQS, Elizabeth I, Newton, WS, Tolstoy and many more.
