thank you very much for this link. Just back from holidays. Read the text "diagonally" but if I have time will study it further. Will put it on the French forum Passion Histoire. Have no time for the moment to think of how other civilisations saw the Roman Empire. Perhaps some Indian sources? And the Roman Empire, is that "us"?

Well we were part of the Roman Empire but you are correct Paul, I should have worded that better, must have been in a hurry that day!

How others saw us during any period in history, not necessarily during the height of the Roman Empire.
