The zeitgeist moves on and in its wake it leaves abandoned items of our culture that once seemed so steadfast, so normal, so eternal, but which we now know will never see the light of day again, not even as retro-chic.

Now that polio is nearly erradicated worldwide hopefully it won't be long until no-one has to see one of these again:

.... there are now thought to be only twenty or so iron-lung users in the entire world.

There is one in our local hospital as example in the hall of a I don't remember what floor. I will say them that it is one of twenty in the world. Saw today in the paper about a painting of a French artist, which hangs in a small village church. And it is millions of dollars worth. The Vatican  has urged the local priest to purchase it, but the local said if they want to see the painting they can always come to the mass or something similar .

Kind regards, Paul.
